Six Reliance apprentices have entered the UK CanSat Competition 2025/2026 under the team name Reliance Orbiters.
The CanSat competition provides students with the opportunity to have practical experience working on a small-scale space project. They are tasked with designing a CanSat which is a simulation of a real satellite, integrated within the volume and shape of a soft drink can. The challenge is to fit all the major sub-systems found in a satellite, such as power, sensors and a communication system, into this minimal volume. After building their CanSat, successful teams will be invited to launch events across the UK to launch their CanSats on small rockets.
The Reliance Obiters team is made up of Reliance’s first-year apprentices, led by third-year apprentice, Harry. The team have also been allocated an ambassador who works in the industry to help guide them during the competition.
So far, the team have submitted their Critical Design Review and are waiting to hear whether they will be taking part in the Regional Launch Event in March.
Harry comments: “So far, the competition has taught us all so much and we are looking forward to seeing the CanSat in action on the launch day. In the meantime, we will be carrying out final assembly and testing in order to achieve a successful mission. Thank you and well done to all involved so far – keep putting in the hard work!”.
