We are currently looking to recruit for the following positions:

Head of Design Engineering

About the Role

This is a new position within the Engineering Team reporting directly into the Technical Director.  The key focus for the role is the people, project and resource management.  Responsible for 14 direct reports the Head of Design Engineering must be a self-starter who can organise and motivate the team to oversee projects and allocate resource accordingly.  You must have proven experience to deliver results through your team with the ability to delegate tasks and expedite delivery of solutions.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Implement and refine product development, testing, and manufacturing processes
  • Responsible for internal and external auditors involved in the auditing of design and development processes
  • Ensure processes meet quality and safety compliance guidelines
  • Manage resources needed for the Team to excel, including researching and proposing capital investments
  • Create and oversee project budgets and engage in cost management strategies
  • Attend trade shows and conferences, and makes site visits to suppliers’ facilities
  • Communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders
  • Collaborate with other team leaders and departments
  • Forge and maintain relationships with suppliers and customers

The successful candidate will have:

  • A Mechanical Design Engineering background (degree /apprentice trained)
  • Organisation, problem solver and strong communication skills to explain and resolve plan changes
  • Previous knowledge of planning, managing and delivering design and development projects involving small to medium batch manufacturing of discrete and complex products and sub-components
  • Experience of customer-facing interactions
  • Experience of developmental activities where project parameters can be subject to change is desirable as is the ability to prioritise schedules
  • A sound commercial and financial understanding is required
  • Knowledge and experience of Project Management software tools such as Microsoft Project is necessary.
  • Strong IT skills: Word, PPT, Excel, screen sharing and audio/video conferencing
  • Ability to chair & minute meetings and good facilitator of calls/meetings to ensure all participants are included
  • Effective risk management (demonstrated experience of effective risk mitigation is more important than knowledge of a particular process)
  • Knowledge of Aerospace Defence, Analytical or Scientific instrument manufacture, or similar applications would be an advantage
  • Chartered Engineer status is an advantage
  • Knowledge and experience of any of the following Quality Standards: AS9100 (Aerospace), ISO9001 (QMS), ISO13485 (Medical Devices), TS16949 (Automotive), EASA Part 21 sub-part G (Production) and sub-part J (Design)
  • Knowledge of PFMEA and/or APQP would be advantageous

Hours of Work

Based on-site working Monday to Friday 38 hours per week.

Buyer

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Buyer to join our Procurement department.  This is a permanent full-time position based at Reliance Precision Limited (Huddersfield, West Yorkshire).

Reporting to the Senior Buyer the successful candidate will work towards supporting business activity and contributing to the successful operation of the procurement department.  Working as part of the procurement team they will be involved in managing a selection of vendors at both operational and more strategic levels.  They will work to promote a high standard of purchasing activity throughout the business, being accountable for developing and managing supplier relationships and reporting on performance figures in line with current purchasing key performance indicators.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and managing relationships with a selection of vendors, ensuring close communication and feedback on supplier performance. Monitoring procurement KPI’s and supplier quality/delivery performance data which is reviewed at monthly meetings and developing suitable strategies for any underperforming vendors.
  • Negotiating and managing supply agreements with key vendors, working to identify and select best source of supply based on cost, quality and delivery requirements.
  • Liaising with and providing support to various teams internally regarding any procurement and supply chain issues, ensuring close communications with suppliers relating to any critical requirements and engaging on product developments/design.
  • Maintain accuracy of stock information on the system, including costs, lead times and relevant compliance data, i.e., Country of origin, ECCN data.
  • Action daily reports to ensure effective alignment with delivery scheduling in support of customer delivery requirements and managing stock in relation to cash flow and inventory.
  • Handle supplier non-conformance issues, raising PO rejects and working with suppliers to ensure delivery of replacement parts/credits and identifying root cause and effective corrective action.
  • Resolving invoice queries linked to purchase ledger, as and when required.
  • Efficient raising of PO’s and RFQ’s in relation to system driven requirements and raising PO’s for non-production and consumable items
  • Delivery progressing and expediting.

Head of Aerospace Defence & Space

About the Role

We are looking for a Business Unit Manager to join our Aerospace Defence and Space department.

Reporting to the Head of Business Development and Commercial, the successful candidate will manage and grow Reliance’s business interests within the Aerospace Defence and Space markets through team leadership and management, key account management, sales and business development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate a marketing strategy and sweet-spot for the sector as part of Reliance’s annual business planning process and manage the sales, orders and actions in line with the agreed company plan (including a 12-month budget, 1-year plan, 5-year plan and 10-year outlook).
  • Engage with other functional teams (Finance, Design Engineering, Production Engineering etc) to ensure their buy-in and support to the plan and to resolve cross-functional issues (e.g. prioritisation of projects or provision of support to other business areas).
  • Provide monthly, quarterly and ad-hoc progress updates and reporting to ensure ongoing awareness, support and senior management agreement to any significant changes.
  • Manage the team sales pipeline, including the mix of business/projects and balance of new/developing prospects alongside established business. Work with Technical Marketing to define areas for research.
  • Prepare, review and sign-off quotations and proposals as applicable to ensure a profitable and sustainable business; including pricing, margins, risks, customer expectations and targets.

 The Aerospace Defence and Space department Team

This five-person department looks after our key accounts within the Aerospace Defence, and Space markets. Ensuring customer satisfaction through service, support, steering reviews and being the internal voice of the customer. Each Key Account Manager is responsible for all related quotation, order, contract and output activities.

CNC Turner

About the Role
A vacancy has arisen for a full-time CNC Turner. Ideally candidates should have previous experience in operating CNC machines, be forward looking, willing to embrace change and Continual Improvement. They should be conscientious, self-motivated and willing to help others within the department. They must be diligent and have a good attention to detail.

This will be a hands-on production role and requires flexibility to work extra hours at short notice if required and a high degree of team work.

Responsibilities may, at times, extend to other areas but key responsibilities are outlined below:
• Be a competent turner with experience working to tight tolerances (4-10 microns).
• Editing and adjusting programs at the machine using Fanuc controls.
• Be comfortable working in a small batch/short production environment involving frequent programming and setting.
• liaising with production engineers to develop new projects and optimise route cards.
• Problem solving and continuous improvement.
• Working to very fine limits and adept with Inspection techniques. In-process inspection using CMM’s and various manual measuring equipment.
• Ability to read engineering drawings.
• Strict adherence to written processes & procedures.

Manufacturing Engineer – Milling

Opportunity

We currently have an exciting opportunity to become a Manufacturing Engineer within the Milling department.

About the Role

To support the growth of the business an opportunity has arisen for a Manufacturing Engineer within the Milling department. This role would allow you to work alongside a team of highly skilled and experienced engineers to produce precision components on a variety of cutting-edge machining centres.

The role requires a highly motivated individual with a desire to develop their skills within a production environment and support change through a strong approach to continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Setting and operating 4 & 5-Axis machining centres with Heidenhain controls
  • Utilising in cycle probing strategies and techniques
  • Unmanned “lights out” production using the integrated pallet loader
  • Setting and operating 4-Axis machining centres with Fanuc controls
  • In-process inspection using CMM’s and various manual measuring techniques
  • Tool setting, including the pre-setting of tools
  • Tool modification using a variety of manual grinding machines
  • 5S and Lean practitioner project involvement
  • Liaising with PED and the inspection departments to optimise production methods and inspection strategies.

Experience (desirable)

  • Working in a precision engineering environment producing complex components
