Manufacturing Engineer - Rod Cell

A vacancy has arisen for a full-time Manufacturing Engineer within our Rod Cell. Ideally candidates should have previous experience in operating CNC machines, be forward looking, willing to embrace change and Continual Improvement. They should be conscientious, self-motivated and willing to help others within the department. They must be diligent and have a good attention to detail.

This will be a hands-on production role and requires flexibility and there will be a requirement to work on 2 shifts 5 days a week and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities may, at times, extend to other areas but key responsibilities are outlined below:

  • Be able to set and operate CNC lathes, Centreless Grinding Machines and CNC drilling machines.
  • Have a working knowledge of Fanuc controls.
  • Be comfortable working in a small team of people.
  • Working with precision parts and handling with care and attention.
  • Problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.

CNC Turner

A vacancy has arisen for a full-time CNC Turner. Ideally candidates should have previous experience in operating CNC machines, be forward looking, willing to embrace change and Continual Improvement. They should be conscientious, self-motivated and willing to help others within the department. They must be diligent and have a good attention to detail.

This will be a hands-on production role and requires flexibility to work extra hours at short notice if required and a high degree of team work.

Responsibilities may, at times, extend to other areas but key responsibilities are outlined below:

  • Be a competent turner with experience working to tight tolerances (4-10 microns).
  • Editing and adjusting programs at the machine using Fanuc controls.
  • Be comfortable working in a small batch/short production environment involving frequent programming and setting.
  • liaising with production engineers to develop new projects and optimise route cards.
  • Problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Working to very fine limits and adept with Inspection techniques. In-process inspection using CMM’s and various manual measuring equipment.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Strict adherence to written processes & procedures.

Head of Component Manufacturing

Description

Reliance Precision is a family-owned and highly successful technology-led manufacturing group, with 250 employees based across our two sites in Huddersfield and Cork.  We have an opening for an individual to join us in the role of Head of Manufacturing at our semi-rural site, just south of Huddersfield.

We are looking for a Head of Manufacturing who can demonstrate effective leadership skills whilst being responsible for delivering tactical, frontline manufacturing support and ensuring we meet our own and our customers’ expectations on Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery.

Working closely with the Operations Director, the Head of Manufacturing will be responsible for managing up to five Team Leaders and overseeing up to 40 Manufacturing engineers, producing precision machined componentry in a high mix, low volume environment for the Aerospace, Defence, Space and Life Science sectors.

The position would suit an experienced people manager with accomplished interpersonal skills who is able to forge close working relationships with both internal & external stakeholders.

This is a newly created role, designed to provide depth and breadth to our operational infrastructure in readiness for the next stage of the Company’s growth.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • People:
    • Motivate, develop, and coach Team Leaders
    • Conduct Team Leader appraisals and provide input into the appraisals of their team members
    • Values driven: Actively promote our Blue Book principles to the workforce
    • Support Team Leaders in managing performance issues
    • Lead on visual management activity across the Manufacturing departments
  • Safety:
    • Promote a positive safety-first culture across manufacturing operations
    • Actively promote hazard awareness activities & attend monthly HS&E reviews
    • Drive enhanced levels of housekeeping & 5S
    • Ensure Risk Assessments, COSHH & PUWER documentation is relevant and up to date
  • Quality:
    • Deliver measurable reductions in scrap and non-value add activities
    • Ensure SPC system is used effectively to produce defect free product
    • Work with Inspection team to ensure CMM capacity matches production schedule
    • Verification of effectiveness of corrective actions in support of non-conformance
    • Actively promote and engage in Continuous Improvement projects
  • Delivery:
    • Work closely with Scheduling to ensure daily plan adherence
    • Drive optimised levels of performance through increases in Productive Hours / OEE
    • Engage with our subcon supply chain to ensure production targets are met
    • Support delivery of improved levels of Customer OTIF (target of 99%)
  • Costs:
    • Manage operational budgets and control variable costs
    • Deliver effective waste reduction initiatives
    • Drive improvements in key asset Utilisation & Reliability
    • Work with Production Engineers to optimise machine cycle & assembly times
    • Contribute to site and asset infrastructure growth through investment proposals
    • Lead on introducing further automation and new technology to improve cost effectiveness of manufacturing

 

Desirable Technical Skills

  • Demonstratable understanding of CI Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing Principles
  • Experience of Visual Management systems
  • Interested in the latest precision engineering technologies
  • Well versed in capacity management/planning techniques
  • Familiar with manufacturing automation concepts (Robotised pallet loading)
  • Demonstratable understanding of quality tools (8D, RCCA, CAR, PPAP, AQPQ)
  • ERP/MRP experience (SAP/Epicor/Oracle/Microsoft Dynamics/Sage)
  • Inventory and Supply Chain Management experience
  • Project Management experience
  • Knowledge of AS9100, ISO9001, ISO13485, TS16949
  • Competent user of the Microsoft Office Suite having the ability to interpret complex data sets (intermediate/advanced Excel skills: Look-ups/Pivots etc)

 

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Strong precision engineering pedigree, ideally time-served apprentice
  • IOSH / NEBOSH Health & Safety Qualification
  • Green Belt Six Sigma experience
  • Knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation and human resources)
  • Customer facing exposure in a technical supply capacity
  • Three to five years’ experience in a management position, ideally within an automotive or aerospace engineering environment
  • Educated to degree level or proven experience as a plant operations manager having had P&L accountability

QHSE Engineer

We have an opening for an individual to join us in the role of Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) Engineer.

Reporting into the Head of Quality, the QHSE Engineer will be responsible for supporting Reliance Precision’s drive for quality excellence whilst ensuring that all HSE standards are met.  The QHSE engineering will have an active role in ensuring customer quality satisfaction is maintained and improved.

This is a new role for Reliance. We are looking for an QHSE Engineer who works well as part of a manufacturing team, actively drives for quality improvements, and shares their skills with others.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitating non-conformance management activities
    • Ensure customer complaints are dealt with in a timely fashion by cross-functional teams
    • Support 8D investigations into complex machining and assembly processes
    • Support Procurement team with complex supplier quality issues and supplier quality management
    • Provide quality facilitation for the completion of non-conformances relating to internal and external audits
  • Lead Quality Improvement Activities
    • Using data-driven methods to identify and lead quality improvement activities across the business
    • Deliver tangible savings to the business via Continuous Improvement projects
    • Support development and updates to the Business Management System and associated processes
  • Support development of a Safety and Quality culture
    • Facilitate safety and quality process awareness and training across the business
    • Lead by example for safety and quality behaviours and drive to improve
    • Act as the voice of the customer whenever quality concerns arise
    • Ensure robust data and metrics are available for all HSE and Quality activities
    • Work with customers to ensure quality expectations are captured and exceeded
  • Lead and support Quality and HSE audits

Desirable Technical Skills

  • A solid understanding of the key principles of AS9100 and ISO9001 Quality Management System requirements is essential
    • An understanding of ISO13485 is also desirable
  • Experience in leading internal and supplier audits
  • 8D and practical problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of ISO14001 and ISO45001 Environmental and Health & Safety management System requirements is desirable

  • Bachelor’s degree, HCD/HND, NEBOSH or equivalent in Engineering, Quality or HSE

Supplier Quality Engineer

Description

We have an opening for an individual to join us in the role of Supplier Quality Engineer.

Reporting into the Head of Procurement, the Supplier Quality Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that the supply chain is delivering products to the required standards. They will be responsible for all quality improvement issues related to vendors and suppliers of materials, products or services used in development or manufacture.

The successfully candidate will work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team, actively drive for quality improvements and share their skills with others.  

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring all products are supplied in accordance with engineering and manufacturing specifications as well as falling within business and government standards
    • Work closely with inbound inspection teams to ensure all necessary checks are carried out
    • Develop plans for inbound quality control of unusual or complex products or services
    • Ensure suppliers are fully aware of their requirements
  • Work directly with suppliers and the wider business to ensure non-conformances are investigated, corrective and preventative actions are implemented
    • Support Procurement team as required with standard supplier non-conformances
    • Provide escalation route for suppliers that fail to adequately investigate quality concerns
    • Work with suppliers that struggle to complete robust root cause corrective actions
  • Monitor supplier performance through KPI’s and manage poor performing suppliers
    • Create and manage a suite of supplier quality performance data
    • Establish Quality Improvement Plans with consistently poor performing suppliers
    • Build long-term quality relationships with key, strategic suppliers
  • Supporting the assessment and approval process of new and existing suppliers
    • Ensure the new supplier approval process is and remains robust
    • Provide Quality oversight of supplier desktop audits
  • Auditing suppliers both in the UK and abroad
    • Carry out supplier audits in relation to their quality approvals
    • Develop risk-based auditing strategy for our supplier base
    • Create easily followed, checklist audits to enable broader Procurement team to carry out limited audits independently

Desirable Technical Skills

  • A proven track record in a Supplier Quality Engineering role
  • A solid understanding of the key principles of AS9100 and ISO9001 Quality Management System requirements is essential
  • Experience in leading supplier audits
  • 8D and practical problem-solving skills
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or HNC/HND in suitable Engineering or Quality discipline
  • Six Sigma Green-Belt qualification
  • At least 5 years industry experience in a Quality Engineering role

Desirable Personal Skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills to form effective working and network relationships
  • Clear communication skills
  • Ability to train and develop other employees
  • Adept at problem-solving and conflict resolution.
