Leon came to Reliance in 2021 at age 16, having completed his GCSEs. He was certain that an apprenticeship was right for him. From his own research, he knew that he didn’t want to study full-time in an educational setting, and he was keen to ensure he could get workplace experience as part of his learning.
Leon began looking into engineering apprenticeships because he was particularly interested in how things work and getting things to work. He applied for four different engineering apprenticeships in the local area and ultimately chose the Reliance Precision Apprenticeship Scheme.
The first year of his apprenticeship was focused on learning the principles of engineering in Reliance’s on-site training facility. In his second year, Leon spent time in each department at Reliance. This rotation is designed to help the apprentices find out what would be the best fit for them, before they specialise in a particular area.
Leon learnt that the Assembly Pathway particularly suited his skill set and interests. He was welcomed into the team and Leon spent the last two years of his apprenticeship learning everything there is to know about assembly at Reliance.
After he graduated, Leon became an Assembly Test Engineer. In this role he primarily works in a cleanroom environment on mass spectrometry related projects, directly supporting Reliance’s customers in the Analytical Instrument industry. Leon hopes to build on his career in the Assembly department. He likes his co-workers and feels as though he is part of the team. He looks forward to helping the department grow, develop and improve over time.
