Reliance Welcomes 2021 Apprentices

Reliance Precision Limited (‘Reliance’) would like to extend a warm welcome to this year’s Engineering Apprenticeship intake – Leon Tomlinson, Maegan Green, Jensen Tucker, Joseph Jamieson, Remel Mitchell and Warwick Connolly. With the exception of Warwick, who joins after completing A Levels at a local college, the others have recently finished their high school education.

The six began their four-year apprenticeship training programme at the end of August, with an introduction into Reliance’s accredited training facility. They have recently commenced their one-day-a-week attendance at Kirklees College Engineering Centre where they will complement their practical mechanical engineering learning and gain formal further education qualifications.

The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in this year’s recruitment process being slightly different to usual. The first stage the selected candidates had to undertake was an online interview with Senior Managers within the business. The successful applicants then progressed to a practical test conducted over Microsoft Teams by a panel consisting of Rob Farrell, Reliance’s Training School Team Leader, Tom Worsley, Reliance’s Technical Director, and Helen Selka, a director of Reliance’s family board. A sealed envelope was delivered to each home address, and at the individual’s allotted time, they opened their envelope, removed the items and completed the practical task in a given timescale.

Rob comments “The six successful candidates did extremely well in both stages of the recruitment process, demonstrating their well-rounded characters. I’m in admiration of the resilience they have shown and the maturity they have exhibited. Each embraced the tough (and slightly different) application process this year, showing what they are able to achieve, despite what has been for them all, a disruptive educational year. I wish them every success in their apprenticeship and beyond into future careers at Reliance.”

Applications for Reliance’s 2022 apprenticeship intake will open at the end of October 2021. For further information please visit  https://www.reliance.co.uk/apprenticeship-scheme.
