Reliance Launches Worm Gear Range for Process Critical Spectrometry Applications

Worm Gear Range

Reliance Precision Limited (‘Reliance’) is pleased to announce the launch of its Reliance Technology Worm Gears range designed for use in process critical systems where repeatable, precise motion control is required. The new product family has been developed for spectroscopy and clean, low‑load positioning systems. Typical applications include spectrometers and monochromators used in pharmaceutical, analytical, medical testing and drug development markets.

Reliance Technology Worm Gears are manufactured in-house using high accuracy gear cutting equipment at Reliance Precision Manufacturing (Ireland) Limited, the company’s production facility in Bandon, County Cork. They have been designed to suit optimum mounting positions and provide high ratio right-angled motion in a small space envelope making them the ideal choice for systems with space constraints. The worm shaft design enables the use of high stiffness bearing arrangements, reducing concentricity errors and increasing axial rigidity – both important characteristics in high‑accuracy precision assemblies.

The Reliance Technology Worm Gears range includes:

  • Plain and anti-backlash worm wheels in pin hub or clamp hub styles with standard modules of 0.4, 0.5, 0.8 and 1.0.
  • Anti-backlash worm wheels in modules 0.4 and 0.5 which can be specified with standard bore sizes of 4 mm, 5 mm, 6 mm and 8 mm. Worm gears with a 6.35 mm (½ inch) bore are available on request.
  • Worms are available with modules of 0.4, 0.5, 0.8 and 1.0. Standard worm bores are 3 – 10 mm, with imperial bores available on request.
  • Worm shafts have standard journal diameters of 5 or 10 mm and worms can be cut with 1 – 4 starts to balance transmission ratio and efficiency in line with application demands.
  • Compatibility with application specific customisation, including material selection.

Kevin Dyson, Reliance Technology Technical Lead, comments:

“Spectrometry applications demand precision motion control and repeatability. The Reliance Technology Worm Gear range has been specifically engineered to deliver industry-leading gear pointing accuracy and exceptionally low transmission error. The full range has been tested using specially designed equipment and customers can be assured it is approved to Reliance quality standards.”

The Reliance Technology Worm Gears range is now available to order. For full technical information, please visit the Worm Gear page of our website to download the Reliance Technology Worm Gears Data Sheet. For further information, please contact us to discuss your application requirements.
