Reliance Precision Limited (‘Reliance’) is pleased to announce that Catherine Smith, Associate Project Engineer, has received the Defence Industry Early Careers Engineering Prize at The Worshipful Company of Engineers and The Engineers Trust Annual Awards 2025.

The Worshipful Company of Engineers is a fellowship of leading engineers based in London. The Company works to promote and develop all aspects of the science, art and practice of engineering within a social and charitable ethos. The Engineers Trust is the Company’s registered charity. Through this charity, they award grants, prizes and scholarships to support and encourage excellence in “persons engaged or desiring to engage in the profession of engineering or elsewhere in industry or commerce generally.”

The annual awards ceremony and Livery dinner was held at Goldsmiths’ Hall in London on 3 June 2025. Twenty five awards were presented to celebrate the achievements of young engineers, whilst the event itself provided an opportunity for them to network with more experienced members of the engineering community.

The Defence Industry Early Careers Engineering Prize, presented in collaboration with AWE, is designed to recognise engineering innovations and achievements by those in the early stages of their career. Catherine was nominated by her lecturer Duncan Taylor at the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre where she is studying for a degree in Manufacturing Technology. Catherine won for her contribution to managing projects and making process improvements in relation to Reliance’s defence and space customers, as well as for the work she has completed as part of her final year dissertation.

Catherine comments:
“I am absolutely delighted to have received this award and I’d like to thank everyone who was involved throughout the process. In particular, I’d like to thank Duncan from the AMRC Training Centre for believing in me and for nominating me. I’d also like to thank Reliance for providing me with the opportunity to work on some really interesting projects in my role as Associate Project Engineer. The experience I have gained whilst working here has made me eligible for this award and I look forward to seeing what the future will hold for me.”
