Catherine Smith Appointed as Member of the IMechE End Point Assessment Standards Committee

Catherine Smith, Trainee Project Manager & Configuration Engineer at Reliance Precision Limited (‘Reliance’), has recently become a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) End Point Assessment Standards Committee (EPASC).

Catherine started her career at Reliance as an apprentice in 2017, completing a Level 4 HNC whilst working in the company’s Inspection department. Catherine has recently accepted a position as a Trainee Project Manager & Configuration Engineer, where she hopes to develop her project management and customer service skills. Alongside this, she is working towards a BEng in Manufacturing Technology at the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre and has also become an IMechE member at Engineering Technician (EngTech) level.

The IMechE is a professional engineering institution designed to support mechanical engineers throughout their careers. It is a registered End-Point Assessment Organisation (EPSO), offering an expert and independent EPA service for the advanced manufacturing and engineering sector. As a member of the EPASC, Catherine will be required to sample completed assessments in accordance with the Ofqual Conditions of Recognition, review assessments and identify areas where improvements could be made.

Catherine comments:

“The End Point Assessment Standards Committee were looking for volunteers and I thought it would be an excellent addition to my current role and studies. I completed an EPA at the end of my apprenticeship in 2021 with the IMechE and I will be required to undertake another one in 2024 when I finish my BEng. I am confident that being a member of the committee will be a good opportunity to share what I’ve learnt so far in my career at Reliance whilst further developing my communication and leadership skills.”
