Last week we braved the rain to do some tree planting with local charity River Holme Connections as part of the Reliance Employer Supported Volunteering (RESV) Scheme.
The scheme is designed to facilitate team-based cross-functional volunteering and aims to encourage employees who wish to engage with local charities or community projects. As most of us are under 18, the company arranges a volunteering opportunity that is suitable for young people. River Holme Connections are able to offer tree planting during the first few months of the year.
River Holme Connections is an environmental charity working to transform the River Holme catchment for the benefit of people and wildlife. Their objectives are:
- To promote for the benefit of the public the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment of the River Holme corridor and surrounding area.
- To advance the education of the public in the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment of the River Holme corridor and surrounding area.
Although it was hard work, I really enjoyed tree planting, and it was great to do something that is good for the environment. As a first-year apprentice, I also liked spending the day with the second-year apprentices. We had a lot of fun. Thank you to River Holme Connections for having us!
