Apprentices Take Part in Military Challenge Day

Four third-year apprentices from Reliance Precision Limited (‘Reliance’) took part in an Apprentice Military Challenge Day on Thursday, 30th October 2025. The event was organised by Headquarters North and 150 Regiment Royal Logistic Corps and was held at their local Army Reserves Centre, at Churchill Barracks in Leeds. The free event was supported by the Yorkshire and Humber Apprenticeship Ambassadors Network (YHAAN) who distributed the invite list to their active members and generously provided funding.

A total of 42 apprentices and 10 employers from 11 local businesses attended the event which was designed to inspire young people through hands-on military-style activities and offered a unique opportunity for participants to test their teamwork, resilience, and leadership skills in a dynamic and engaging environment. The apprentices tackled a series of physical and mental tasks, including planning exercises and command tasks involving problem solving as well as learning about weapons, night vision equipment and IED detection.

Harry Baxter, Third Year Apprentice, said: “I loved the Apprentice Military Challenge Day, working as a team to lower a truck wheel, planning under pressure, and building a bridge really tested our skills and confidence along with our teamwork.”

The apprentices were accompanied by their colleagues Bry Carter and Ken Jolley, both of whom are proud Army veterans. Bry Carter, EHS Manager, commented: “As a veteran and former Warrant Officer Class 1 of the Royal Engineers, I took great pride in witnessing the apprentices approach each challenge with professionalism, determination, and enthusiasm. Their effective communication, teamwork across mixed groups, and cohesion as a unified section were exemplary and reflective of the values we aim to instil within our workforce.”
