Embedded Electronics Summer Placement

About The Role

We have an opportunity for a summer placement student with a proven interest in embedded electronic or mechatronic engineering to join our Engineering Department. The placement will last for approximately 3 months (with some flexibility) and will be based on-site at Reliance Precision Limited in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. The successful candidates will report to the Head of Electronic Systems.

The Project

The focus of this placement will be to explore the use of ESP32 microcontrollers to support the activities of the embedded electronics team and the wider business.

You will work primarily within the electronics teams to:

    • Understand the benefits and drawbacks of the ESP32 as a supporting technology.
    • Learn and evaluate the tools need to program, debug and test code on the Esp32.
    • Design and conduct experiments designed to test intended use scenarios.
    • Identify, trial and propose the best IDE for the embedded electronics team and provide training materials accordingly.

Skills and Qualifications

The role is open to students of any year. The key attributes we are looking for are a passion for engineering and an aptitude for technical communication and learning new skills.

Useful knowledge and experience include:

    • Knowledge of software engineering.
    • Knowledge of electronic engineering.
    • Experience working with micro controllers in general.
    • Specific and demonstrable experience of using ESP32 devices would be beneficial.

Hours of Work

This role is 38 hours per week for approximately 3 months. There is some flexibility around the start and end dates to suit the successful candidate.

Working hours are:

    • Monday to Thursday: 08:00-17:00
    • Friday: 08:00-12:00

Interview Process

The interview process will consist of two stages:

  1. The first round will take place during the week commencing 13 April and will be conducted online.
