Business Development Engineer – Aerospace, Space, Defence

Reliance ( is a long established, highly successful privately owned British manufacturing company with a strong growth record, engaged in specialist design and manufacturing services.  These typically include fine pitch gears, motor gearbox and actuation technologies, together with complex precision-machined components, electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical assemblies for Aerospace systems and products.

Knowledge of these areas of technology are beneficial as the Technical Sales Engineer is required to interpret potential customers requirements against Reliance’s capabilities, working with each customer to evolve suitable packages of work which meets the needs of both organisations.

This is not solely a technical role; the successful candidate will be required to engage technically and commercially with the market in order to develop a pipeline of new business prospects and will involve new business prospecting, securing relevant enquiries, presenting quotations, proposals and detailed tenders, through to negotiation and order placement.

This is an international sales role involving travel in the UK, Europe, Scandinavia, Asia Pacific and North America regions therefore previous experience of working with different business cultures would be beneficial, as would experience of managing overseas agents.

The ideal candidate will have relevant knowledge and expertise in both the markets and technologies, together with strong written and oral communication skills, financial and business acumen and the gravitas to work in this demanding sales environment.

The vacancy has arisen as a result of succession planning for a retiring member of the sales team and 6-12 month training and handover period is anticipated for the successful candidate.
