Reliance Precision's European sales team has been expanded with the recruitment of Arjan Bos, Sales Engineer for Northern Germany and The Benelux. Arjan will be responsible for developing Reliance's opto-mechanical manufacturing business, an area of significant growth for the company. "We are delighted to have Arjan on board" explains Alistair Durie, CEO-Group Sales, "he brings a wealth of experience in photonics and laser optics, which suits this specialist area of our manufacturing expertise perfectly."
With its heritage in high performance, precision mechanical assemblies, Reliance has an in-depth understanding of moving mechanisms. This, together with clean assembly facilities and disciplines developed for supply to the scientific instruments industry, makes Reliance ideally suited to small optical assemblies where positioning accuracy is essential.
Reliance's business growth in this area was illustrated in 2010 with investment in a new cleanroom built specifically for the integration of optical components and mechanical or electro-mechanical technology. The advanced, electro-static protected, paperless cleanroom, which uses the latest wireless communications technology, was officially opened by Andy Brown, VP Business Procurement UK, Selex Galileo Limited. Certified to ISO Class 7 and supplemented by clean air benches to ISO Class 4, the new facility provides a highly integrated inspection, assembly and test capability, maintaining the necessary disciplines and processes appropriate to working with precision optics.
The facilities have been developed in close co-operation with Reliance's customers to give them complete confidence when considering outsourcing opto-mechanical sub-assembly work. Having been one of the first customers to benefit from the new cleanroom, Selex's Senior Buyer, Kenneth Wright, complimented the company's achievements: "Price is important, but what's essential is quality and attention to detail; outsourcing sub-assemblies to Reliance has been as near seamless as it could possibly be".
The expansion of the European sales team to encompass the opto-mechanical business also follows year-on-year growth of Reliance's standard components and assembly business in mainland Europe. Reliance Precision Mechatronics (RPM), a division of Reliance Precision Limited, has achieved particular success in the medical and life sciences markets, providing slides, leadscrews, pipetting and linear systems for liquid handling and sampling mechanisms.
